Around 46 million people live with bipolar affective disorder (BPAD), 0.3-1.2% of the global population. The symptoms are often not recognized as a BPAD right away. People may suffer for years before the condition is properly diagnosed. They need help but don’t seek it!
The risk of suicide is high among those with BPAD; approximately 10-15% of people with a bipolar diagnosis complete suicide while many more attempt suicide unsuccessfully.
The key is in the hands of patients but they need help to use it properly.
People with bipolar disorder do better when they have support from family members and friends. They tend to recover more quickly, experience fewer manic and depressive episodes, and have milder symptoms.
Be aware and stay safe!
